Possible UPS strike action in USA

As you may be aware from the media coverage, UPS in USA, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union are negotiating a new National Master Agreement (NMA) for approximately 330,000 U.S. employees, as well as supplemental agreements that cover specific local areas of the country.

It has been reported that talks concluded at 4am in the US on 5th July without an agreement and no further negotiations are currently scheduled. UPS workers voted overwhelmingly last month to authorise a strike if the two sides failed to reach a deal by 31st July, when the current contract expires.

Specific information on this potential action can be found via this link > News on the 2023 UPS labor negotiations.

We should be clear that at this stage no specific dates for industrial action have been announced.

However, should formal action take place we expect significant disruption on all deliveries to and from USA on shipments sent with UPS, but also with our other carriers. This is because we expect them to be inundated with additional volume being moved away from UPS.

ILG and our parent company, Yusen Logistics, continue to monitor the situation closely and will send further updates as the situation continues to develop.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your usual ILG contact.
