Bakeerthana Mohankumar Rajah

HR & Payroll Administrator
“I have had a lot of training since I started, as I came in with no background in HR, so I was shown everything from scratch. When I started, a member of the team in charge of training was always there whenever I had any questions and needed help with new tasks.”

Why did you join ILG?

ILG were participating in the Kickstart scheme, which offered a 6-month fixed term contract funded by the government. The scheme was to get young people into employment regardless of their experience. After finishing university, lockdown hit and I couldn’t find a job, that was when I was told about the scheme and decided to take a chance and apply.

Talk us through you career journey at ILG.

I started out as an HR trainee on a 6-month fixed term contract with no knowledge or experience of HR. As that came to an end, I was given the opportunity to apply for a permanent position within the team. The new role was similar to the role I was in, but with more responsibilities – I applied, thinking ‘why not?’ and now I am in that role!

What does your job involve?

My job involves onboarding process (processing new starter offers, contracts, issuing forms and adding everyone to our HR system, getting references and obtaining DBS), processing contract change/promotion letters, contracts and updating our HR system as appropriate. Also, the offboarding process (leaver letter, processing on system and other services) managing some staff benefits (ensuring they are up to date), some payroll actions and monitoring the HR email inbox.

What training and development opportunities have you had at ILG?

I have had a lot of training since I started, as I came in with no background in HR, I was shown everything from scratch. When I started, a member of the team in charge of training and was always there whenever I had any questions and needed help with new tasks. But the whole team is lovely and are always happy to take time out of their busy schedules to help whenever asked. I also came in on a trainee role for just 6 months but with all the training and opportunities I was given to learn and grow, I was able to apply for the HR and Payroll Administrator role when the opportunity came up. I have been in my current role for just under 2 years and I am still learning with the help of my manager and team.

What do you like about working at ILG?

The team is definitely a plus, everyone just fits in well together and works well – we are like a family. But also, as a whole company, everyone works well together regardless of departments and sites.

What advice would you give anyone considering applying to ILG?

ILG is a good opportunity, there is nothing to lose in applying as the worst case is you just get some experience out of it.
