“The great thing about ILG is the opportunities you are given to improve, and we are always offered courses to help aid our progression. From Excellence in Customer Service to Time Management, and even Excel courses.”

Why did you join ILG?

I had worked in customer service roles since leaving school. I’d left my previous role at a plant hire company because it lacked the opportunity to progress or improve.

ILG were hiring for the delivery and fulfilment teams at the time, and it sounded like the fresh step I needed to take.

Talk us through you career journey at ILG.

I started in the Delivery Customer Service team which in those days was quite small. There were about 5 of us, plus 2 in freight and the team manager. As the fulfilment side of the business grew we took on the role of fulfilment customer service too, so our team also grew.

After working with the delivery team for over 4 years, the opportunity to move across into Health and Safety presented itself. I applied, interviewed, and was accepted on a secondment role for 6 months.

After passing my IOSH Health and Safety Management course, the role was made permanent, ahead of schedule in May 2023.

What does your job involve?

Health and Safety is essentially a multi-site task of continual improvement. We like to be visible as much as we can, so that our colleagues can come to us with their health and safety concerns.

Part of our role is to audit each site, which we do on a quarterly basis. We also organise various committees such as the Health and Safety Reps, the Forklift Forum, and the Mental Health Forum.

When called to site for an emergency we travel there, assess the situation and guide the staff at that warehouse to resolve in the safest and most efficient way possible.

The Health and Safety team also organises the various courses for Forklift Drivers, First Aiders, Fire Wardens, Mental Health first Aiders, Risk Assessing, and also combine with other departments to train shift supervisors and other team leaders.

What training and development opportunities have you had at ILG?

The great thing about ILG is the opportunities you are given to improve, and we are always offered courses to help aid our progression. From Excellence in Customer Service to Time Management, and even Excel courses.

Since working in Health and Safety I have completed my IOSH Health and Safety Management course and online courses on Legionella and Asbestos.

What do you like about working at ILG?

I like our people and the opportunities I have been given to meet a variety of different people – and the acknowledgement given from those colleagues for the hard work that we do.

ILG also gives back to its employees with schemes and rewards, such as our awards evening and the Christmas games and prizes.

What advice would you give anyone considering applying to ILG?

If you are ready for a new challenge, we look forward to welcoming you to the team!

“The great thing about ILG is the opportunities you are given to improve, and we are always offered courses to help aid our progression. From Excellence in Customer Service to Time Management, and even Excel courses.”
